Statins Linked to Less White Matter Damage
After the rather depressing news that statins age you faster we now found out that this does not apply to brain function another paper has shown that older adults with suboptimal cognition may have a benefit from statins on white matter in the brain.

"Our results suggest that statins may slow the damage to white matter in the brain in individuals with mild cognitive impairment, which may translate into a slowing in cognitive decline," lead author, Neelesh K. Nadkarni, MD, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pennsylvania, commented to Medscape Medical News.

The study, published in the October issue of Alzheimer's & Dementia, was a secondary analysis of the Health ABC study epidemiologic study of older adults who did not have dementia at time of inclusion.
